Technical exams

These exams can be organised on the spot at the consultation or after having made a specific appointment.

Colposcopy (Dr Camacho, Dr Albert, Dr Spada)

Colposcopy : exploration of the vagina and cervix using a binocular microscope, providing an enlarged view of the cervix. This examination is used as a tool for the diagnosis of benign or malignant cervical lesions.

Hysteroscopy (Dr Camacho, Dr Spada)

Hysteroscopy : examination carried out after the consultation, to visualize the uterine cavity and perform, if necessary, biopsies or polypectomies.

This examination is often used in case of menorrhagia or metrorrhagia.

Gyneacological ultrasound (Dr Camacho, Dr Holoye, Dr Dupond,Dr Lejeune, Dr Spada, Dr Albert, Dr Dobrescu)

Ultrasonography : This gynecologic ultrasound can be performed endo-vaginally or abdominally. It is painless and allows to place a set of diagnostics in a precise manner.

Vaginal and cervical cultures: these allow for the detection of bacterial or viral infections and to diagnose certain sexually transmitted diseases.

Cervical biopsy: a biopsy that takes place during a medical consultation and consists in sampling fragments of the cervical mucosa.

Vulval biopsy (Dr Albert, Dr Dobrescu)
Endometrial biopsy

Endometrial biopsies : biopsies that happen during the examination and which allow for a diagnosis of benign or malignant abnormalities of the endometrium (intrauterine mucosa).

Frequently asked questions

Can I still come to my appointment if I have my periods ?

Yes, if you have an appointment for a PAP smear test and you are at the beginning or the end of the menstrual cycle. Otherwise it is advised to reschedule, as the smear will not be able to be taken.

At which stage of the menstrual cycle do I need to organize an appointment for so as to apply for an ICD (intrauterine contraceptive device)? Does the gynecologist have ICD’s in stock ?

ICD’s application appointments need to be organized when you are scheduled to have your periods or for just after.
The gynecologist doesn’t generally have ICD in stock in his office. It is also recommended to discuss which type of ICD is most appropriate to your case: a copper or hormonal ICD.

My gynecologist has requested me to schedule a follow up appointment in 3 or 6 months after undertaking a PAP smear test…Should I be worried ?

You don’t need to be alarmed and there is no need to come back to soon after your initial test. If you require further information on the follow up appointment, please contact your gynecologist or check out our blog 19.07.2013 FAQ re: pap smear and abnormal screening results.

I forgot to take my contraceptive pill : what do I do ?

If you have forgotten to take the pill, take it as soon as possible (even if it means you take two pills on the same day), use a condom for the next 7 days and continue taking the pill as normal till the end of its course to assure optimal contraception.
If you have forgotten to take the pill for 2 days or/ and more; continue to take the pill till the end of its course but you will need to imperatively use a condom, as you are no longer protected from falling pregnant till your next pill course. If you have forgotten several pills and have had sexual intercourse without using a condom, you will need to contact your gynecological as you may be pregnant.

I have had unprotected sex: What do I need to do ?

Go to the pharmacy and ask for the morning-after pill. You will need to take the pill within 72hours of the sexual intercourse.

I am trying to conceive but it doesn’t work, after how long should I check it out ?

After 12 months of unsuccessfully attempting to fall pregnant.
