Thorax X-Rays
A chest X-ray from the front and in profile permit the examination of the appearance of the heart and the lungs, to check for the presence of pathological lymph nodes, an enlarged thyroid gland and other tumours.
To minimalize the exposure to radiation, this test is recommended if there is a risk factor present for pulmonary disease such as smoking or if there are respiratory or other complaints.

- Do you smoke ?
- Do you cough ? (except allergies or a cold)
- Do you cough up phlegm’s ? (discoloured or with blood)
- Is there some unexplained weight loss ?
- Do you have a temperature ?
- Are you short of breath ?
- Do you have a history of emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis ?
- Are you exposed to excessive dust or noxious gases ?
- Have you been advised to have a follow-up of chest X-Ray ?
- Does somebody around you suffer from tuberculosis ?
- Did you undergo the last thorax X-rays more than 10 years ago ?
If one of the previous defined conditions exists, please discuss with the examining physician the indication of chest X-Ray.
