Preparation radioactive iodine test

Treatment prescribed by your doctor and administered at the department for nuclear medicine.

Patient Preparation

Once your appointment has been scheduled, you should stop taking any current thyroid medication (your doctor will advise you accordingly). Prior to this exam, you should also have undergone a series of tests like the Tc-99m uptake and have had neck and chest scans to determine your treatment dosage.

Procedure

You will receive oral therapy treatment; a capsule containing a small amount of radioactive material. No food or drink can be taken an hour prior to swallowing the radioactive material. Post therapy precaution relating to the amount of therapy given will be explained.
